Columbia River Rottweiler Club Independent SpecialtyNovember 19, 2008 Dear Membership: The following is a summary of why the American Rottweiler Club Board passed the following motions:
The ARC Board was notified by a club member that Columbia River Rottweiler Club had submitted paperwork to the American Kennel Club to host an independent specialty. We were also told that CRRC requested that their conformation judges sign a contract requesting that ‘natural’ tail Rottweilers remain in the ring and not be excused. CRRC’s paperwork was returned by AKC and they were asked to request and get permission from their Parent Club prior to submitting their specialty paperwork. It is the practice of the American Kennel Club to have Parent Club permission submitted simultaneously with independent specialty applications. CRRC was notified by AKC that they needed ARC’s permission to host their independent specialty. CRRC contacted ARC for permission and permission was denied. Robin Stansell from the AKC contacted me specifically about this denial and asked why the ARC Board had denied CRRC permission. I explained that CRRC had done two things which had dictated our response – they did not ask us permission initially and they constructed a contract that was against AKC rules. Mr. Stansell explained that the AKC Board of Directors could override our denial BUT this would mean an AKC Board of Directors meeting and unnecessary paperwork for both AKC and ARC. He asked that the ARC Board revisit CRRC’s request. Mr. Stansell also noted that there can be no contracts from a host club dictating what an AKC judge did in their ring. CRRC did construct a new contract for their judge’s that did not stipulate anything regarding ‘natural’ Rottweilers. The ARC Board discussed what we could do to ensure that clubs did not construct their contracts in a manipulative manner. The last motion in italics was the Board’s decision regarding this question.
