Dear Juniors,

Do you love to write as much as you love dogs and showing? The AKC Gazette will publish a special 125th anniversary issue in September 2009. The issue will feature a look back at the first 125 years of AKC dog shows, but will also look forward to the future. As the "future of the fancy," juniors are welcomed to contribute to this issue.

We are looking for essays of no more than 200 words, on the topic of The Future of Dogs. Please share your thoughts on where you hope you might be (in relation to dogs) in 10, 20, or even 50 years in the future. Will you be showing? A judge? A professional handler?

What do you hope the future holds for dogs in general, and for the sport of conformation? (Comments on other AKC companion and performance events also welcome.)

If you have looked at the history of dog shows, you'll see how much has changed in the past decade, and indeed 125 years! What changes would you like to see occur in the future?

If you are interested in contributing, please email your essay (no more than 200 words) to Rebecca Wallwork, Articles Editor, AKC Gazette. Email: RNW@akc.org

Deadline: August 3, 2009

Please include your full name, address, phone number, email, and the breed(s) of dogs you show. You must be a junior as of September 2009.

Space is limited, but we hope to include as many essays or quotes as possible.

Please also email Rebecca if you have any questions about the essays. Please feel free to post or forward this to other juniors.

Thanks and happy summer!
