Re: AB 1634 "The California Healthy Pets Act" OPPOSE
Dear Chairman Eng:
The American Rottweiler Club officially opposes AB 1634, The Healthy Pets Act.
We represent our membership of over 1500 with many residing in California and we would
like our opposition to be formally listed with the Bill Analysis.
The American Rottweiler Club is the official Parent Club that represents all purebred
Rottweilers through the American Kennel Club which includes numbers in excess of 500,000
in the United States.
The statistical data gathered from numerous shelters throughout the state of California
have shown decreases both in the intake rates and the euthanasia rates. Therefore there
is no rational basis for AB 1634. `
Permitting exemptions based on participation with private entities denies dog and cat owners
the right of free association. There are numerous registries for both cats and dogs and yet
this bill appears to encourage and support specific monopolies.
With very few exceptions it is the private home owner that breeds their show dog once or
twice that provides quality, healthy purebreds. These individuals are no different than
anyone else with a hobby they love and share with their families. The results of their
efforts not only garner support and audiences from around the world at Eukanuba Championship
and Westminster each year, but also provide healthy and correct puppies to others.
Breeders such as these are not profit making organizations or businesses, like you and
I they budget to enjoy their hobby. AB 1634 will force many of these breeders to give
up their hobby along with denying others that seek carefully bred and healthy pets.
Please document our opposition to AB 1634
Cordially yours,
