Search and Rescue Committee

Dear ARC Board,

I do not know where to begin in thanking the ARC Board for the concept and idea of the generous support of SAR and Disaster Response Work. There are so many needs associated with training a Search and Rescue or Disaster Response Dog. I hope you and others will be patient with us as we formulate a plan. We hope this plan will be a model for other parent clubs to follow in formulating similar support for their breeds. The first item of importance was to meet personally with Lester which took place recently. We shared notes, ideas, and common goals.

I have also had several communications with committee members, Robert Schulte and Marilyn Benz. They have both made some wonderful suggestions and contributions to the development of this committee. We are currently working on a Mission Statement and Goals for the committee. We are working under the direction of Lester Cesara who from personal experience has many good ideas and suggestions.

The willingness of each person who has expressed support for this endeavor is greatly appreciated. The usefulness of these teams has proven to be very beneficial in the event of an emergency whether it be a lost child, a rescue mission such as those taking place in Texas, or serving as comfort/compassion dogs in Red Cross shelters in conjunction with mental health teams.

There will never be enough teams to meet the ongoing needs. The work is stressful, and ongoing training is essential. This committee is very excited to be able to assist the American Rottweiler Club in yet another venue to allow the general public to see the wonderful intelligence, skills, and versatility of this noble breed. To be perfectly honest, I cannot tell you how many times people have said to me face to face, that they had no idea that a Rottweiler could do this kind of work. It is my sincere passion to continue to "take it the streets" in the ring of life, and allow people to see what the Rottweiler truly represents.

We pursue this passion only to help save lives, or at the least bring a little peace of mind to a remaining family member. We remain respectfully in your debt for your support. Please extend this communication to others, and know we are working to fulfill our promise to the Board. We welcome any and all input, ideas, and suggestions.

With the highest respect and esteem,
