The American Rottweiler Club (ARC) was formed in 1973 to encourage and promote the quality breeding of purebred Rottweilers and to protect and advance the interests of the breed. ARC is the Parent Club of the Rottweiler. That means we are the only Rottweiler club to be a Member of the American Kennel Club; we send a Delegate to their quarterly meetings and we are the owners of the AKC Rottweiler Standard.
Our members are guided by a set of principles that require a commitment to excellence in all that we do, and the adherence to the high standards set forth in our Mandatory Practices. We are proud of our tradition of setting standards for good sportsmanship in all our activities, and guiding newcomers and breed enthusiasts by sharing our knowledge and love for the breed.
Our membership includes people from all walks of life. Their Rottweilers are involved in Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Carting, Herding, Rally, Tracking, Schutzhund, working as Service/Therapy or Search & Rescue dogs or full-time beloved companions and family pets. But one thing that we all have in common is that we love and respect the Rottweiler breed and have its best interest at heart.
In the 21st century the American Rottweiler Club has encountered negative legislation that is erasing the ability to own our magnificent breed. We support local, state and national efforts that promote responsible ownership. Our members work diligently to ensure that the dogs we so cherish are owned, loved and cared for responsibly. And we encourage our members, Rottweiler owners and animal lovers to become knowledgeable, visible and vocal in order to maintain our right to own any canine.
The ARC has an annual National Specialty & Sieger Show, and also holds numerous Regional Specialties throughout the year, as well as Judges Education Seminars.
The ARC was instrumental in the founding of two, independent not-for-profit organizations: the Rottweiler Health Foundation (RHF) and the Rottweiler Rescue Foundation (RRF). The RHF promotes and financially supports breed health research and educates owners and breeders on health concerns of our breed. The RRF awards grants to deserving organizations who are involved in rescuing Rottweilers and finding them “forever-homes”.
The American Rottweiler Club newsletter, the ARK, is published quarterly and sent to all members. It also includes a yearly National Specialty Show Supplement. Each issue includes information on club business, health issues, dog sports, advertisements on litters, show dogs, etc.
